Slant, The latest exhibition by members of Illustrators Ireland opened last night in the Ormeau Baths Gallery Belfast and runs until 27th September. The theme of the exhibition asked illustrators to reinterpret a work by one of their favourite artists. I chose Ingres - Valpincon Bather and my re-interpretation is pictured above.

With the opening night of CandyKaraoke looming large on the horizon, I’ve taken a break from the curator/admin position to actually finish work on my piece. Above is the finished cover of Daft Punk’s Homework.
What follows is the different elements that make it up. (more…)

As curator of this show it might go some way to explaining why I’ve not been updating the blog too often lately but I have to say it’s been a brilliant experience. Keeping a project of this size (70 contributing artists) moving along has been more of a pleasure than a pain. Here is the blurb and some info…
In a time where digital music sales have outstripped physical formats like cd or vinyl, thereby shifting the focus from browsing cover art in your local record shop to high budget videos and clever marketing, CandyCollective wanted to celebrate the ever declining art of sleeve art.
‘CandyKaraoke’ sees us collaborate for the first, of hopefully many, times with Monster Truck Gallery on Francis Street and RHA to invite over 70 of Ireland’s leading designers, artists, photographers, illustrators, musicians and original creative minds to reimagine their favourite album covers. All artworks produced will be original 1-off 12” square works which will be sold for only 300 euro each. (more…)

This report in from Illustrating Illustration Exhibition curator Ale Mercado…
Well, the exhibition is up and running. The official opening was last Friday. We had a fantastic crowd and the place was buzzing with energy. All works look fantastic. So I am delighted with it. Hopefully some of you can make it down to kilkenny. (more…)

So these are the three pieces I will be showing for the upcoming show in Kilkenny.
The idea of the show is to commission an illustration that will be reproduced in the catalogue, with the gallery show exhibiting the sketches, roughs, etc that will hopefully illuminate the process involved.
All are available to buy by contacting Mary through their website. (more…)

This is the piece I’ve submitted to the Illustrating Illustration exhibiton that will open on Friday in Kilkenny before travelling to Seville in Oct. This will appear in the catalogue for the show, with the original elements being exhibited on the gallery walls.
